When to schedule maternity photos
Pregnancy is such a magical time! As a mom of two, I know all the beauty that comes with pregnancy but, also all the things on your "need to do list" to prepare for your little ones arrival. Sometimes photos can get put on the back burner because we feel like we have unlimited time or some moms just don't know when is this best time to plan for your photos.
The question most new moms have is, when is the best time to take their maternity photos? My goto time frame for maternity photos is between 28-32 weeks. Your goal with maternity photos is showing off your sweet baby bump and feeling beautiful when you do it. Every pregnancy is different but some may find themselves more uncomfortable as they get closer to their due date. So, 28 -32 weeks if a sweet spot. Babies also have their own little schedules and like to make their appearances on their own terms. This time frame usually works great in the event of early arrivals, inducing, or scheduled c-sections. Having twins or multiples? For pregnancies with more than one baby I would recommend shifting this time frame to between 26-30 weeks since these pregnancies tin to go sooner and you show earlier.
So, when should you actually book? Booking early is always best, I usually recommend booking by or around 20 weeks. This gets you comfortably into your pregnancy but also allows time to careful plan your experience. You get the best selection on dates, and time to select your location and outfits without feeling rushed. (bonus: I include a client closet access with my sessions) However, if you want to do announcement photos you can also plan a little earlier and book a package to cover all your sessions from announcement to newborn. I personally offer a motherhood package that includes maternity and newborn photos but also has an announcement session add on option for those who wish to get the process started a little sooner.
Why do maternity photos matter? Pregnancy is such a special time, it is both long and so short at the same time. Your body is doing something amazing and deserves to be remembered. But it's not just about the bump, it's about the chapter of your story your currently in, showing the love and anticipation of the next stage your little family is about to enter. It doesn't matter if it's your first or last baby each season if different and worth preserving.
So, schedule your maternity session or package early, before life gets too busy and enjoy the experience knowing you will have this beautiful season timelessly documented.
